Staff are a campsite's highest variable cost (30–40% of revenue) and also the main source of the guest experience. A well-organized team works better, makes fewer mistakes and keeps guests more satisfied. A disorganized team costs twice as much and produces half as much.
Typical campsite roles
| Role | Main duties | Relationship with management system |
|---|---|---|
| Director/Manager | Strategy, pricing, suppliers, HR | Full access |
| Receptionist | Check-in/out, reservations, cash register | Operational access |
| Maintenance worker | Repairs, pitch cleaning, systems | Work orders only |
| Lifeguard/Activity leader | Pool, activities, safety | No access |
| Bar cashier | Orders, cashless payments | Limited cash register view |
Shift planning
During peak season, reception must be staffed from 7:00 to 22:00 (at least). With 2 receptionists, typical shifts are 7:00–14:00 and 15:00–22:00. The break between shifts is essential for handover. Ovvo Camping allows you to record operational notes visible to all staff upon login.
Use a WhatsApp group dedicated exclusively to operational shift communications (not for chatting). Rule: every operational message must receive a read confirmation within 15 minutes. It works better than any dedicated HR app for small facilities.
